Bluewhite64 12.1 release notes. Two years ago I have started this project with the goal to offer a 64-bit Linux experience of Slackware and I think that I succeeded ;). I cannot believe that this years are gone like a wind and I'm releasing a new stable version of Bluewhite64 Linux! And now, a few words about this release: Among the many program updates and distribution enhancements, you'll find better support for RAID, LVM, and cryptsetup; a network capable (FTP and HTTP, not only NFS) installer; two of the most advanced desktop environments available today: Xfce 4.4.2, a fast and lightweight but visually appealing and easy to use desktop environment, and KDE 3.5.9, the latest version of the award-winning K Desktop Environment. We have added to Bluewhite64 support for HAL (the hardware Abstraction Layer) which allows the system administrator to add users to the cdrom and plugdev groups. Then they will be able to use items such as USB flash sticks, USB cameras that appear like USB storage, portable hard drives, CD and DVD media, MP3 players, and more, all without requiring sudo, the mount or umount command. Just plug and play. Properly set up, Bluewhite64's desktop should be suitable for any level of Linux experience. For more detailed information please read the ANNOUNCE.12_1 file. I'd like to THANKS to all who helped with this release, especially to Patrick Volkerding for creating Slackware (you are The Man!), to those who are reporting problems and fixes on the Bluewhite64 forum, to Virgil Modoveanu for testing every update in the current tree, to the package creators at data.linux64packages.net:8080 (I hope that you will keep updated the repo for this release too ;). Enjoy! -- arny [arny at bluewgite64 dot com] http://www.bluewhite64.com
