During the Slackware installation process, the user is offered the option to write a different Boot Loader to the SPI flash. This enables changing the hardware's configuration (e.g. changing the RAM speed) post Slackware installation and power off. The user can change the firmware from within the OS at any time, to facilitate hardware changes (once the OS has been shut down and the machine powered off).
